Mom Support

Did you know that fewer than 40% of US schools require classes on reproductive anatomy and puberty? That means, moms or other adults are expected to tell their daughters about their periods.

Mom, you are a major force in cultivating your daughter’s power and self-esteem. The way you present menstruation can set the stage for her positive attitude about it.

We can help you guide your daughter into this transformative time so she feels positively - and even excited - about her body, herself and her period.  And we start by helping you feel more positively about your own period and body.

Mark the Occasion

Through the ages and in some cultures, ceremonies and sacred spiritual initiations mark a girl’s first period. Celebrating your child’s first period with a simple, celebratory gesture can be equally beneficial.

Following is an easy idea that you may do with your daughter to acknowledge her special day and help her step into his passage of life with excitement.

Take a mindful walk or hike in nature together. Focus on our surroundings and talk about it. Share a story about your first period. If you walk at night, discuss its magic and influence over earth and our bodies. Your loving connection in fresh air and surrounded by nature will create a beautiful memory for both of you.

How to talk with your daughter?

Here's a tip!

Start early, before she moves into puberty.

Simply, invite her to share her thoughts about anything (you decide). Then listen. Be inquisitive and listen more.

Just 15 minutes of focused one-on-one time every day will strengthen your connection and cultivate a relationship of love and trust. It will help her feel comfortable taking about most anything.  By the time she reaches puberty, it will be much easier for her to hear your insights about menstruation - and easier for you to share it, too.

We offer many more suggestions in "The Talk" guidebook for moms. Find it in our collection of guidebooks called

EmpowerHER: Period Power Toolkit for Moms.

Take space to ease cramps

While on your period, and especially if you feel cramps, take time out of your normal routine to rest and relax your mind.
Spending time alone, even if just for a short while, soothes the nerves in your body and eases over-stimulation and over-thinking.

Relaxing allows your intuition and ideas to flow. You may receive thoughts or messages that will help you solve something that has been bothering you. Or you
may receive a great idea that can help you in the future.
