Celebrate Your Daughter

10 Easy Ways to
Mark the Occasion

Through the ages and in some cultures, ceremonies and sacred spiritual initiations mark a girl’s first period. Celebrating your child’s first period with a simple ceremonial gesture can be equally beneficial.

Following are 10 easy ideas that you may do with and for your daughter to acknowledge her special day and help her step through this passage of life.

You may decide to engage in more than one and make an event of it.

  1. Take a mindful walk or hike in nature together. Focus on our surroundings and talk about it. Eventually it may lead to deeper conversations.

  2. Take a walk under the moon and discuss its magic and power over earth and our bodies

  3. Gift her with a necklace, journal with pen, picture frame, special garment or other kind of momento that she will use and cherish.

  4. Share a story about your first period.

  5. Make her a special meal and serve it in candlelight with soft music to soothe her and help her feel the sacredness of the event.

  6. Decorate the dinner table with red paper napkins, red tablecloth, etc. Serve  a special dessert of red velvet cupcakes, or strawberry ice cream with red berries.

  7. Write your daughter a poem and read it to her and/or frame it for her room.

  8. Give her flowers.

  9. Gift her with a package of self-care items, such as essential oils, bubble bath, heating pad, and cramp-easing teas (such as ginger).

  10. Have a Pamper Party with facial mask, foot bath, special snacks (something you don’t normally eat), while listening to a playlist of songs you both love.
